Learn More about Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park, a vast preserve in southern Utah, is known for its reddish fairy chimneys. The park's main road runs along the huge Bryce Amphitheatre, a depression with many fairy chimneys, below the Rim Trail. There are several lookout points along this route, including Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. The best times to view the landscape are at sunrise and sunset.

The whole area belongs to the western part of the Colorado Plateau, famous for its reddish eroded rocks, which are present in all the surrounding national parks. Bryce Canyon belongs specifically to the Paunsaugunt4 sub-plateau, which extends over an area of 40km by 16km. There are several natural amphitheatres carved out by erosion. The largest of these, Bryce Canyon, is nearly 20km long and 5km wide, with a maximum depth of about 250m2. A path runs along the upper rim of the amphitheatre and there are several observation posts.

The region is influenced by a mixture of continental and mountain climates. The climate is characterised by fairly harsh, cold winters and relatively warm summers.

Frequently Asked Questions by Travelers planning a trip to Bryce Canyon

The park is not a canyon. Rather, it is a spectacular series of more than a dozen amphitheaters, each of which is carved at least 1,000 feet into the chromatic limestone of the Paunsaugunt Plateau.
